Tips for Choosing your Wedding Flowers
Flowers are among one of the most important visual elements of your wedding day and should compliment, not overpower either your wedding dress or your attendants' dresses. From the flowers at the ceremony, the groomsmen's buttonholes, reception flowers to the bride's bouquet, flowers will create a colourful and fragrant impact to your wedding.
- Think about if your wedding has a theme, and how you feel flowers will carry that through.
- Have a swatch of your bridesmaids’ fabric for colour matching of flowers and ribbons.
- Work within the seasons.
- Know your budget.
Once the theme, colour scheme and bridal gown has been decided on, make an appointment with me. We can look at your fabric from both your wedding dress and your bridesmaids’ dresses. I reccommend that you reserve your day with me well in advance of your wedding day as I can often be fully booked throughout the spring and summer. Allow an hour for the first appointment, the initial meeting is obligation free consultation.
Flowers to consider for your wedding
- Bride, bridesmaids and flower-girls.
- Groom, groomsmen best-men and page boys.
- Mothers and grandmothers of both the bide and groom.
- Fathers, Grandfathers, Ushers, Toast-Master or - Master of Ceremonies.
- Flowers for the ceremony and reception.
Some extras to consider
- A "throw bouquet" - If you wish to throw your bouquet when leaving your reception you should ask your designer to make up a small, similar bouquet from the same flowers for this purpose, this is especially important if you are going to have your bouquet preserved.
- Preserving your bouquet - If you are having your bouquet preserved, arrange this well in advance with a specialist and confirm that the flowers you have chosen are suitable and will preserve well.
Delivery on the Day
Delivery times and addresses are important, so confirm these with your florist at least a week before your wedding. Your flowers should be delivered at least two hours before the wedding in boxes covered with tissue paper.Keep the boxes in a cool room until either your photographer arrives or you are ready to leave.
Holding your Bouquet
Not all bouquets have a right way up, but if yours is asymmetrical make sure the florist shows you how to hold it. If your florist personally delivers your bouquets she should show you and your attendants how to hold your bouquets correctly. I like to place a pearl headed pin in the stem to the back of the bouquet where your thumb should sit, this tells you by feel that you are holding the bouquet correctly.
Finally congratulations and have a wonderful wedding day!
